The Folks have spoken; Politics as usual. Print E-mail

NEW BEDFORD, MA - A very successful person once gave me some advice. Continue to do what you have always done and continue to get what you have always gotten. Of course he was referring to employment choices and investment strategies, but the same advice can be applied to yesterday's election. Considering how well all the incumbents did in yesterday's election, one would think New Bedford is Shangri-la and we want more of the same wonderful life. Unfortunately New Bedford is not paradise on Earth and the civic minded citizens of New Bedford who bother to vote have spoken. They, or at least 75% of of 'they' are content and happy with the current state of affairs in our city. All over the country, they threw the bums out, except in Massachusetts and especially New Bedford. The anti-incumbent fever even caused a power shift in congress. President Bush unlikely received any sleep last night. But here, we are happy. So, where does the election leave us? Time will tell.

So, where does the election leave us? It's as plain as the4 nose on our faces. It's as clear as the mandate from the election. It is plainly and simply a fact: New Bedford's redidents, taxpaying, home owning, parents, grandparents and yes even the children... DESERVE exactly what and who they selected again.

This should be the end of complaints about EVERYTHING New Bedford!

Not one more word about Fluoridation, high property taxes, school appointment of un-certified teachers, unqualified appointments of politically owed hacks. We will no longer hear of complaints about ceiling tiles falling in schools where the maintainence budgets are continually cut year after year because the Sub-Superintendent needs to provide a job for another owed political hack. We will not be listening to parents complaining about children not having textbooks. We won't be seeing complaints about School Committee members cheating on there travel expense accounts, either!

The end to commnets about "business as usual" or about the quality of education or the number of students droping out of school before graduation.

What a "Fossiliferous Utopia" we must have.
Should we be selecting the kind of "For Sale" sign we want displayed in front of our homes, already?

Welcome to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
